Since Sarah T.'s review said nothing about Pierre's services as a hair stylist, I thought I would write a review since he has been styling my hair for 28 years. I have very curly hair and Pierre cuts it perfectly. He adjusts the cut based on things like the time of year. (For example, my hair is straighter in the winter so he cuts it to maximize the curly look.)

I moved to DC in 1984 and tried several other stylists before I found Pierre. He immediately got rid of the "football helmet" I was sporting! I was thrilled and have continued to be so over the years. When I moved to NYC for a couple of years, I flew back to DC so Pierre could cut my hair. He also styled my hair for my wedding. When Pierre moved overseas (temporarily), I was devastated. I tried a couple of Georgetown salons that were highly recommended, but came away disappointed and with the "football helmet" look again. When Pierre decided to move back here, I was SO happy. As the years have gone by, I now can also review his ability to color hair. He assesses my hair color every time and creates the proper formula to restore its color and highlights. (NO STANDARD FORMULA - He creates the formula based on what he sees in your hair as it is on the day he is coloring it.) He also fixes hair damaged by perms and what not and unscrews what other colorists (or you and Ms. Clairol) have screwed up, If you go to him for damaged hair or a big color job, be sure to discuss price before you get into the chair to avoid surprises. I think his prices are reasonable and in line with other high quality salons.

As to Sarah T's review, I can only say that, over the years, I have never heard a racist remark or heard a racist joke from Pierre, so I have no idea what she is talking about. Also, I have never seen a television in his salon EVER. He used to play classical music or jazz in the salon, and I have never heard him play it loud. (He was playing opera today at a very low volume.) He has always been extremely courteous to me and to my husband (who has also had Pierre cut his hair).

I will say this - it is one thing for a hair salon owner to have an individual doing mani-pedis in his hair salon, and entirely another to have a solo stylist cutting hair in the middle of a nail salon (with 4 pedi stations and multiple mani stations as in this case). I don't think these two businesses are particularly complementary, and the salon's atmosphere has changed along with Pierre's business model. Having said that, Pierre could be cutting and coloring hair in an outhouse and I would still be going to him with pleasure. My personal concern is that he will decide "to hell with all this" and move to Puerto Rico and I'll be back to "helmet hair" and a date with Ms. Clairol.

Pierre is a genius with color! He is the only person I will let touch my hair. Visit him and you won't be disappointed! His technique will leave you with beautifully natural color, your friends will be shocked to hear you've done anything to it. Not to mention he always gives me the most flattering style- I always feel my best after I see Pierre!

I was traveling, had some down time, and my hair style was badly in need of some new thoughts. I was staying nearby, so went to yelp for advice. The reviews intrigued me because they were so different, the location was perfect for where I was staying, and I was feeling bold - so I took a chance. First note - the name has changed - it is now Pierre Richard's Hair Studio. I walked in and Pierre was at lunch. A quick phone call was made and he returned immediately. I was then treated to an amazing experience - and walked out with the best haircut / style I have had in years!

The experience report: Pierre educated me about my hair and scalp. He talked to me about my lifestyle, and took my complete lack of patience for styling my hair in the morning into consideration. (I am a up early, run with the dog, shower and bolt out to work type person). He then proceeded to demonstrate his artistic abilities on my hair.

The cut / style report: my husband was not aware I was even considering a complete change. I got home and immediately faced shock (it was a drastic change), followed rapidly by a "wow - that looks really good on you". I have subsequently gotten more unsolicited compliments on my hair than ever before in my life. As far as upkeep and ease of management for me - it is outstanding, and I could not be happier. Many people have asked me who cut my hair so they could go, unfortunately Washington DC is a pretty far trip from Pittsburgh - but I am seriously considering repeat trips just to keep getting my hair done by Pierre.

And final note - I have no idea who Sarah T. was talking about - as it was not the man I met.

Pierre is an artist -- he really is. He is a wonderful stylist and always manages to cut my hair in a way that is most flattering to me. As for color, there's no one better. He is an expert at repairing bad color jobs and always manages to blend the color to make it look natural. I even brought my daughter to see him -- she had ruined her hair with Sun-In, and he corrected the color so that it looked natural and blended with her new growth so she never had to color it again. He's a magician!
